The Curse

I think I've discovered the curse of the writer--or the pretentious lover of words who would dare to assume such a title.

(My life would probably be complete if this were my house.)

This is what I think: the curse is to never be completely present in reality.  It's to be constantly forming sentences, re-arranging adjectives and feeling a thrill over savory comma-pauses in your mind.  It's to be muttering the words back to yourself and tasting the description of what you are experiencing even as you experience it.

I find myself doing this all of the time: inventing summary phrases of my experiences as they take place.  Composing pretty flowing sentences to capture the moments, to save them up for a day when I could adequately understand and describe them again.

Even when alone, the writer does not escape the curse.  Especially not then.

I remember lying in bed one night and thinking: It's amazing how incredibly flawed I am. And there it was, so simply but so accurately put. A post-it note tucked away to address on another day.

There are other things, too. Good things, beautiful things.  The minutest details my mind captures.

 The trailing remark I will allude to from the conversation before the conversation before the last.  You mean you don't remember how that color on that paper reminded you of that band whose hit single is obscurely related to our current project?


The details stick, the sentences form and the memories reassemble.

And I will fall into them again and again.

Rumour Has It

. . . that this is the catchiest thing to come off of Glee thus far.
Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Doesn't the title just inspire you to start using British spelling?
"Rumour" sounds so much more elegant and mysterious than plain old "rumor". And can't you see yourself wearing a floor-length gown to the "theatre," as opposed to the "theater" where you might spend a dollar to see a film? Those English know what they're doing with their English.

Grammar Love

  This picture solidified what I've thought for years: a good--no, impeccable-- command over the English language (or any other language for that matter, but that's a blog post for another day) is an incredibly attractive quality in a guy.  Or maybe it's simply the fact that the lack thereof  is extremely distasteful.  It's all about the your/you're, definately/definitely, and the "lol".  No man--or any guy hoping to fill such a title--should ever,  ever type "lol."

Not ever.

Bonus points if he can correctly spell bigger words than me.

Being the bibliophile that I am, when I heard that our resplendent (though often esoteric) word friends were plummeting from the Oxford English Dictionary, I was impelled to take one word under my wing and coax it back into use.

My lovely word adoptee was not chosen out of pigritude; rather, it spoke to something that ameliorates my life on a daily basis.

The word?  Psalloid: a stringed instrument such as a harp or violin.
As in, I need to spend some time with my psalloid tonight, application suppliments are due very soon.
